Reflection Blog – A Heartfelt Close to My First Three Months with BAE by Elwin Daniel
As I wrap up my first three months as a music fellow, I can’t help but reflect on what a meaningful, energizing, and truly joyful journey it has been. Every class, rehearsal, and performance has reminded me why I chose to teach music—to watch young minds connect with rhythm, melody, and creativity in ways that surprise me every day.
This term, my students explored rhythm through a variety of percussion instruments including the Cajón, Djembe, Boomwhackers, and Bongos. Watching them experiment with sounds, coordinate as ensembles, and build confidence through rhythmic play has been incredibly rewarding. We also ventured into melodic instruments such as the ukulele and bells, and of course, we filled our days with plenty of singing. Their enthusiasm for learning and trying new things made each lesson feel fresh and vibrant.
One of the highlights of the term was the Bhavan Brunch on December 6. Our concert choir performed three songs beautifully, filling the room with warmth and harmony. I was especially proud of Thamu, Shriya, and Ravi Priya, who performed on the piano. Working with them after school gave me a chance to witness their dedication up close. They showed remarkable growth throughout the term and demonstrated a commendable willingness to make corrections, refine their technique, and push through challenges. Their “never-give-up” spirit was truly inspiring.
Another student who shone this term was Nithin. His adaptability, quick learning, and positive attitude made him an invaluable member of the choir. He embraced every request with enthusiasm and contributed wholeheartedly to every rehearsal.
As the term ends, I feel inspired, and excited for what lies ahead. I look forward to carrying this momentum into next term—with renewed energy, fresh ideas, and the same joy that music unfailingly brings.
