Broadway Field Trips!

THE OUTSIDERS

On October 9, BAE took 100 students from Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan to see The Outsiders on Broadway. Filling the start of the school year with fun off-site trips is a key part in making students feel excited about all that school has to offer, and this field trip was the perfect start to our school year! Not only did students feel very special seeing the welcome shoutout to Broadway for Arts Education in the programs, but it helped strengthen existing relationships, form new friendships, and build trust with teachers.

SUFFS

On December 12, BAE took 83 students from 5 different schools across NYC to see SUFFS on Broadway. For most our students and teaching artists, this was their first introduction to the stories of the women’s suffrage movement, and the experience made a lasting effect on our hearts, minds, and curriculum. Over the course of the second semester, students learned the finale song, “Keep Marching” while exploring themes of perseverance, marginalization, advocacy, and allyship through performing and visual arts. Then, they got to perform the piece alongside Broadway cast member Tsilala Brock at Lincoln Center!

BOOP!

Our third an final Broadway field trip outing was to see BOOP! on May 3. This was the perfect way to celebrate all of our students after performing at the Lincoln Center Art Share that morning. 93 students joined us and even got to meet some of the cast members at the stage door following the show.

THANK YOU, JOE CHERNER!

All of these incredible experiences (nearly 300 Broadway show tickets!) was made possible by the generosity of Joe Cherner, who has been creating opportunities the students of Broadway for Arts Education students to see Broadway shows for many years now. We are so grateful for his continued support, and for opening windows of joy and imagination to our students, many of whom might otherwise never get the chance to see a Broadway show.
