IMPACT REFLECTION

2025 marked Broadway for Arts Education’s 10th year of providing music programming at the Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project in Tamil Nadu, India. Over 300 students, aged 4–18, participated in hundreds of hours of private and group piano, guitar, violin, and voice lessons, general music classes, and choir rehearsals—delivered both in person and virtually by our dedicated team of teaching artists.

At the start of the year, BAE and Shanti Bhavan leadership outlined core goals for the music program:

  • Provide a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment where students can explore their artistic talents, develop their skills, and express themselves creatively

  • Instill and reinforce the values of punctuality, responsibility, and time management to prepare students for success in college and career

  • Promote ownership, accountability, and independence through student-led projects and performances

These guiding values came into focus most clearly during one of the most meaningful events in Shanti Bhavan history: the 4-day Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025 and the Inauguration of Shanti Bhavan’s second school in Chikkahosahalli. BAE’s music program played a central role in preparing students for these monumental events. From choirs and instrumental ensembles to student-led performances and musical tributes, the program helped students honor their journey while celebrating the beginning of a powerful new chapter.

Students worked tirelessly in the months leading up to the events—rehearsing national anthems, traditional songs, and original compositions—demonstrating maturity, discipline, and heartfelt investment in making the ceremonies deeply moving and memorable. The performances honored both personal and collective milestones and reflected the profound pride students take in their school, their culture, and their identities.

Our team also had the privilege of guiding younger students as they prepared performances to welcome and honor guests at the Chikkahosahalli campus inauguration. The joy and energy of these young performers, many of whom were taking the stage for the first time, set the tone for a future rich with creativity and opportunity.

The impact of BAE’s trauma-sensitive and culturally responsive pedagogy continues to shine through in student stories. [insert 5 student quotes]

These experiences show how the music program fosters emotional well-being, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Peer support, returning mentors, and sustained investment in arts education have created a thriving environment where students flourish as artists and leaders.

As we reflect on a decade of partnership, we are deeply proud of the role our program has played in moments both grand and personal. We look forward to the next chapter—supporting both Shanti Bhavan campuses and helping even more students find their voice, tell their stories, and step boldly into their futures.
